Conscious Capitalism - Corporate Fear

I've been reading Megatrends 2010 by Patricia Aburdene and find myself reflecting on my 17 years of corporate experience. I left a six-digit salaried position because I was no longer having fun. It was clear to me that decisions were being made based on fear, not company values. Have you had experience with corporate fear? If so, what do you believe feeds this fear?

As a Project Manager in a large corporation managing large projects, I have seen a lot of fear around change. This manifests in many ways. There is fear that the change will negatively impact their ability to perform, to maintain financialy security, to adapt, and may be perceived a potential risk to their self image and way of doing things.

They key I have found is to face the change, question assumptions\judgments, remain open, keep the discussion going, collaborate, and support each other in implementing the positive change.

Great topic. What are you doing now Steven?

Thanks for your response Zennie. I work as a Professional Facilitator, guiding organizations in transition through change and my experience has been very similar to yours. I also find that helping people view their situation from different perspectives will open up options that they previously had not considered. You mentioned assumptions\judgments which is huge. We all have a tendency to operate from assumptions/guidelines that many times no longer serve us. Recognizing and challenging assumptions (especially our own) can lead to great rewards. By the way, if it's not obvious, most of my learning is developed by being honest with myself. Through my work, I find that many situations that I'm involved with are just a reflection of me at some point during my own journey. It appears that we all work in areas that give us the greatest opportunity for self-learning.
Peace and Prosperity,
